Lucy and Darkness

An ode to the beauty of the night

It’s the middle of the night, and Lucy is awake. The whole room is just waiting for the day to begin. If only it were morning! When Lucy turns on the light, she hears a voice under her bed. ‘It’s me. Darkness,’ says the voice. But when she plucks up the courage to look under her bed, she sees… absolutely nothing.

Karst-Janneke Rogaar has written and illustrated a beautifully atmospheric picture book about a girl who sets off for a walk in the darkness. At night, with only the enchanting light of the moon above, the world is filled with new scents and sounds. And it turns out that Lucy is not the only one who’s awake…
