Properzia
The story of a rebellious female sculptor during the Renaissance
Bologna, the early sixteenth century. Properzia is furious. Her younger sister is getting married. But Properzia is already fifteen – and she’s the first-born daughter! Her father thinks she’s far too flighty for marriage, though, and is sure that spending time in a convent will do her some good. Then Properzia meets Lucas, a young painter. She decides to run away from home and to follow him and his friends to Rome.
In this book, Properzia de’ Rossi encounters mercenaries, popes, cardinals and even the great Michelangelo. She does everything in her power to prove that a young woman can also become a sculptor.
